If you are planning to handle your move to a new office building on your own, you're probably considering renting a truck for the move. Before you start loading the truck, there are a few things you should know about loading your items so they stay safe while in transit. Here are some helpful tips you can use to load the truck effectively.

Load Cubicle Walls On The Sides

If you have cubicles in your office, break them down and line the sides of the truck's interior with the cubicle walls. Use bungee cords to secure them to the sides of the truck, and then begin moving in the rest of your items. Having these large, flat items loaded first will help to ensure you have room for everything, and the cubicle walls can provide a bit of cushion for other items in the truck. Be sure to cover them with moving blankets to protect the surfaces from becoming ripped or torn.

Line Desks In The Center

Place desks in a column running the length of the truck, leaving room on both sides for boxes. You can use the space below the desks for box storage, and use the drawers to stash smaller boxes away. Packing boxes in the drawers lets you maximize space in the truck, but remember to remove the boxes before moving the desks out, as the boxes can weigh the desks down. If you have L-shaped desks, consider disassembling them first to make room for everything in the truck.

Load Boxes By Weight

Heavier boxes should be placed on the bottom of each stack, with lighter boxes placed on top. This can help to prevent crushing the boxes, and it can also prevent heavy boxes from getting tossed around in the back of the truck while it's on the road. Boxes filled with paper reams, books, and binders can go on the bottom of the piles of boxes. If you have fragile items packed away in boxes, surround them with moving blankets to keep them from becoming jostled while in transit.

Use Plastic Wrap

If you are using boxes that are all the same size, consider using plastic wrap to secure them together. This can make it easier to transport the boxes, and it also helps to prevent boxes from getting damaged while in transit. Plastic wrap can also be used to protect the surfaces of office chairs, sofas, and other upholstered items.

Take an inventory of all the items you'll be moving into the truck so you can create a plan for loading your truck. This can prevent you from having to load and unload the truck until everything fits. And for more information and moving tips, talk with a moving truck rental company, such as Elite Truck Rental.
